Nancy Jane (Eshelman) Wertz, 84, of Everett, PA; passed away on Sunday, April 7,
2024, at home surrounded by family. She was born on November 27, 1939, in Everett,
PA; daughter of the late Jason H. and M. Josephine (Barton) Eshelman. On June 13,
1958, in the Everett United Methodist Church, she was united in marriage to Jack S.
Wertz. He preceded her in death in 2007.
She is survived by three children Jacqueline D. Wertz, Everett; Shawn D. Wertz, Myrtle
Beach, SC; Shelley P. Wertz and partner Jimmy Roue, Everett; son-in-law Ralph
Kofoed, Denmark; brothers James H. Eshelman married to Cecelia and C. Richard "Dick" Eshelman married to Evelyn; and several nieces and nephews.
Nancy was preceded in death by her daughter Brenda J. (Wertz) Kofoed in 2006,
sisters, Emily Kormanski and V. Lucille Middlesworth and brother, Wilbert Eshelman.
Nancy was a graduate of Everett Area High School Class of 1957. She moved to
Germany along with her husband for his military enlistment where their first child,
Brenda was born. Later returning to Everett and eventually moving into the family's
Homestead where she raised the 4 th generation of Eshelman ancestry.
She was a life member of the Everett United Methodist Church, where she participated
in choir, bells, bible study and the food service committee. Nancy enjoyed her social
gatherings with her various groups of friends to include, the widow group luncheons and
exercise groups. She loved her country and was very patriotic and joined in with her
political friends in many events along with a peaceful march in Washington D.C. She had
many friends outside of her organized groups and they loved attending various concerts
and theater productions. She loved music, instilling in her children in many ways, with
her role as Band President when her children were in school.
Nancy exuded class with a great sense of “story telling” humor. She was loved by many.
She was known for her wonderful “fancy” cake decorating abilities while working at the
Everett IGA and if you did not know her name folks would call her “The Cake Lady”.
She also worked at the Gateway located in Breezewood, PA.
Friends and family will be received on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at the Akers Funeral
Home, Inc., 299 Raytown Road, Everett from 6-8 P.M. and on Friday from 10:00 A.M.
until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024, at 12:00 Noon in the Chapel at
Akers Funeral Home with Pastor Wade Eshelman officiating and Luther Scell assisting.
Burial will be held at the Everett Cemetery following the Funeral Service.
Family and Friends are welcome to gather for a warm meal at the Everett United
Methodist Church following the burial service at approximately 2:00 P.M following the
burial.
